Start of a Journey
The story of SUCCESS in the City has its beginnings, filled
with determination desire and like any business owners, doubt.
Christine Stilwell, founder and president of SUCCESS in the
City, had a vision for something that wasn't yet found in
the mind set of entrepreneurial business. She was determined
to change the way women were perceived in the business market....and
change is what she did. She took her years of experience and
her life journey and created a business that helps women go
from entrepreneur to enterprise....from fledgling to fabulous.....from
underearners to financial independence.
Mile
One
The first year of SUCCESS was exciting! Having their
first Chrysalis Award recipient undergoing her transformation,
and sharing their progress with the Houston community. Many
people embraced the work that was being done, but others watched
from the sidelines to see what this "SUCCESS was all
about!" The momentum was building and more and more women
knew that SUCCESS was not the typical ladies organization
but more like a entrepreneurial agency that promoted women
in business. The concept took off and SUCCESS in the City
grew to holding standing room only events and a database of
1500 members.
 A
Road Less Traveled
How was it that in just one year, SUCCESS in the CITY had
earned the recognition of the Mayor's office? Stilwell feels
that being in the fast lane is due to the support of the community
and the women who stood beside her that made SUCCESS what
it is today. The men and women that have supported the direction
of SUCCESS coupled with integrity and respect for each other
has made SUCCESS one of the fastest growing entrepreneurial
training and resource facilities.
While
Stilwell's characteristic determination and tireless entrepreneurial
spirit have played an important role, it has been her ability
to quickly recognize and establish a niche within the entrepreneurial
industry that has been the ultimate key to her company’s
success. Christine is passionate about being able to be involved
creatively in the community and focuses on bringing in clients
of a similar mindset. SUCCESS in the City fills a niche in
the industry offering a valuable service to women owned businesses
who place a height value on business presence, a new mindset,
and concrete results. By having women-owned businesses who
share the same target market, SUCCESS in the City is able
to cross-promote clients and participate in co-branding opportunities
– a brilliant strategy, that produces bottom line results.
“With 3 out of 5 businesses closing within the first
5 years of business we knew that non-tradtional methods would
need to be implemented and creating the buzz for a new way
of doing business was going to be a tough road to climb. It
is through understanding women in the marketplace so well
that SUCCESS in the CITY is able to satisfy their clients
who demand nothing less than the best.
 Christine
also credits her phenomenal Preferred Women Business Owners
as one of the key elements to her success. “We receive
scores of requests all the time to be put on the Preferred
Vendors List. It’s not hard to find people with the
right skills; the difficulty is in finding people who share
a similar mindset and who are dedicated to looking out for
the best interest of a woman's business," Stilwell explains.
Through one-on-one interviews, SUCCESS boasts a strong team
based on intergrity, leadership and professionalism.
Destination
As an entrepreneur, Christine strongly believes that giving
to others is essential to the growth of a woman's business.
At each event, Christine will choose a fund-raising project
to donate her company’s time, as well as give the proceeds
of that event to. This list consists of such charities as:
The American Red Cross, the Fairy Godmother Project, The Arc
Association, the Escape Family Resource Center and Dress for
Success.

In June 2006, Success in the City will be celebrating its
2-year anniversary with the opening of the SUCCESS Institute,
a location for women who have a home-based business to conduct
meetings, enjoy classes, or relax in our Resource library.
SUCCESS in the CITY has taken the entrepreneurial woman to
a new level of expectation.
Stilwell
continues to take her current achievements and tread the unknown
waters of her own personal and professional journey. Her motto:
